OpenPetGuide is an independent publisher. It isn't owned by a retailer, a food brand, or a veterinary chain, and it's a sister site of Open Travel Guide. You can reach us directly at contact@openpetguide.com.
Why we're building it
The first hour with a new animal is when you have the most questions and the least idea who to trust. Search results for those questions are crowded with pages that stretch one paragraph of real information into two thousand words, or quietly steer every answer toward a product.
We're building the opposite: structured pages that answer the question in the first screen, show the source underneath, and say clearly when something is a question for your vet rather than one to handle at home.
What we cover
Dogs, cats, small pets, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, horses and ponies, backyard poultry, and invertebrates such as tarantulas and isopods. For each, we're building guides to getting started, housing and equipment, feeding, costs, and breeds, along with buying guides, because many care questions end with a purchase and badly chosen gear is a welfare problem.
We don't diagnose, we don't publish treatment protocols, and we never give medication doses.
How the site is funded
OpenPetGuide is free to read, with no paywall and no display ads. Some pages will contain affiliate links, which may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Nobody pays for coverage, placement or a recommendation, and commercial relationships never decide what we conclude. The full arrangement is in our affiliate disclosure.

Sources you can open
Every fact on a page is tied to a source, and the page lists those sources so you can check them yourself.
Checked against the source
We confirm each sourced figure against its source, and we review every page template and a sample of every release. The details are in our editorial policy.
Corrections, in public
When we get something wrong, we fix it and note what changed on the page. Corrections go to the front of the queue.
What we don't claim
We're a new site. Our pages aren't reviewed by a veterinarian, and we don't pretend otherwise: you won't find a review badge on a page that hasn't been reviewed. If qualified reviewers join us, they'll be named on the pages they check, with their credentials and the date.
