Scope
This policy applies to every page published on openpetguide.com, including guides, species and breed profiles, comparison pages, and buying guides.
How a page is made
Every page starts from research records in which each fact carries its source and a date. We use AI tools to help with research and drafting, and nothing reaches a page until it has been confirmed against its source.
- Question first
We start from a real owner question and define what a complete answer has to contain.
- Structured research
We collect facts from primary sources, each with its source address and the exact sentence that supports it, then re-open every source to confirm the sentence and the number are really there.
- Write from verified facts
We write the page using only facts that passed that check. Every number on the page comes from one of them.
- Checks and review
Every page passes our automated checks before it publishes, and we review every page template and a sample of each release.
- Publish, date, re-verify
The page shows the date its content last changed, and we re-check its facts when their shelf life runs out.
Sourcing
Health, nutrition and welfare facts come from veterinary associations and colleges, government and regulatory guidance, and peer-reviewed research. Breed facts come from breed registries and breed clubs, and product specifications from manufacturer documentation. We don't cite other content sites as the only evidence for a fact, we never publish a citation we haven't opened, and a fact that can't be confirmed at its source isn't used. Every page lists its sources.
Expert review
OpenPetGuide launched in 2026, and our pages aren't currently reviewed by a veterinarian. We say so rather than implying otherwise: there's no review badge on a page that hasn't been reviewed.
If qualified reviewers join us, each reviewed page will name the reviewer, their credentials, and the date they checked it. Until then, we don't publish pages about symptoms, diseases, or medications, we never publish medication doses, and pages that touch on health stay within general, well-established guidance and point you to a vet for anything specific to your animal.
Independence
Recommendations are made on the merits. We don't accept payment for coverage, placement, scores, or link insertions, and commission rates are never a ranking factor. Partners never decide what a page says or how products are ranked. Where a page contains affiliate links, that's disclosed at the top of the page and explained in our affiliate disclosure.
Updates and dates
Each page shows the date its content last changed. A new date means the facts or text changed, never a cosmetic refresh.
Facts carry a shelf life: six months for insurance terms, one year for prices, and up to three years for breed biology. When a fact's shelf life runs out, it's re-verified against its source.
Corrections
Email contact@openpetguide.com with the page address and the problem. We read every message, and corrections are handled first. Factual errors are corrected as soon as they're verified, and material corrections are noted on the page itself.
Medical limits
OpenPetGuide publishes general reference information. It isn't veterinary advice and doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. Always consult a licensed veterinarian about your own animal, and seek emergency care right away if an animal is in distress. See our terms of use.
